Are Muslim Protests Justified?

It is very unfortunate that we Muslims, inspired and guided by the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) himself have to degrade ourselves to such illicit forms of protests. People have even called for boycotting EU products. Till now four people have been killed during protests and, the Norwegian and Danish embassies of Damascus was set ablaze by protestors. An Iraninan paper has called for an international cartoon contest as a tit-for-tat attack.
Come on people, why are we doing this? What did the EU or for that matter Denmark do for them to invite such a wrath? Are we being unnecessarily hostile to the West? What is the point in Arab(not Islamic) nations closing down missions? Why is it that this thing came up only when the Norwegian paper published it and not when Jyllands-Posten published it in September 30 last year?
Ok, i as a muslim is offended, but then what did EU do about this? It is the newspapers that needs to be boycotted, not the nations. For Allah's sake lets not take this as a confrontation with the West. Lets look at constructive dialogue, and let us not look for adventurism. And how come French and German papers publish the cartoons?, because of the very controversy we ourselves created. See, how we spoiled our own purpose? Was this how our Prophet would have dealt such a situation?
IslamOnline reports a Tehran Times article that states suggests that this whole situation was a plot to create animosity between Islam and Christianity.
